Istanbul E-pass includes entrance to Adam Mickiewicz Museum.
The Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Istanbul honors the life of the renowned Polish poet and political figure. Mickiewicz's fascination with the East is palpable in the museum's exhibits, which showcase his Persian studies and "Crimean Sonnets." Visitors can explore political documents from Mickiewicz's time in Istanbul and contemplate his final resting place in the museum's basement. The establishment of the museum on the centenary of his death ensures that Mickiewicz's legacy endures, attracting visitors from Poland and beyond to pay their respects to this literary giant.
In his final years, Mickiewicz undertook the stewardship of the valuable collection at the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal in Paris. His last journey began in September 1855, as he ventured to the East with plans to organize Polish legions against Russia. Tragically, Mickiewicz passed away suddenly on November 26, 1855, in a rented house in Istanbul, which now serves as a museum in his honor. Despite viewing this accommodation as temporary before his planned journey to Bulgaria and Serbia, it was in this modest abode that Mickiewicz spent his final days. Described by a Polish visitor as simple and sparse, the room where Mickiewicz resided was furnished with basic amenities, evoking the atmosphere of an inn room along Ukrainian trails. Today, the Adam Mickiewicz Museum stands as a testament to his enduring legacy, located at the intersection of Tatlı Badem Sokak (Sweet Almonds) and Seadr Ömerpaşa Caddesi Streets.Visitors can check out political documents from Mickiewicz's time in Istanbul, giving a peek into his role as a political figure in the Ottoman Empire. With the Istanbul E-pass, guests can enjoy free entry to this cultural gem and over 80 other attractions, making it an essential stop for any Istanbul itinerary.
