Tips (optional)
Gallipoli
The places where the toughest and bloodiest battles of the World War I were fought are in the Gallipoli Peninsula. It features a wide array of sunken ships, cannons, trenches, forts, bastions, and hundreds of other war-related relics. The war graves and memorials of more than 60,000 Turkish and more than 250,000 Australian, New Zealand, British and French soldiers are also here.
Troy
A famous ancient city in the world. Currently, there are 9 layers that can be seen in Troy. It shows a time period of more than 3000 years and allows us to get information about the ancient civilizations that lived in this geography. The earliest settlement level in Troy is in the early Bronze Age 3000-2500 BC. Later on, the Troy layers, which were continuously inhabited, ended with the Roman Period dated to 85 BC – 8th century AD.
Pergamon
Although it has been subject to invasions and destruction throughout its history, it has been inhabited continuously due to its strategic location and has never disappeared from the scene of history. It was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 2014.
Ephesus
The first establishment of the ancient city of Ephesus goes back to 6000 BC. It was moved around the Temple of Artemis in 560 BC. Its current location was founded by Lysimakhos, one of the generals of Alexander the Great, around 300 BC. Ephesus, which has the status of the capital of the Aya province, was known as the largest and most magnificent port city with its population of approximately 200,000. The ancient city lived its most glorious times during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Pamukkale
The archaeological city of Hierapolis, which contains magnificent white travertines formed by calcium oxide-containing waters from the southern foothills of Caldagi, and remains from the Late Hellenistic and early Christian periods, is one of the most impressive centers that have survived from ancient times to the present day. 2 km from Denizli.
Hierapolis
It is believed that it was founded by Eumenes II, one of the kings of Pergamon, in the 2nd century BC, and that it was named after Heira, the wife of Telephos, the founder of Pergamon. During the reign of Constantine the Great, it was the capital of the Phrygian region, and during the Byzantine period, it became the center of the Diocese. Hierapolis, which is on the world heritage list, is one of the places that must be visited.
